  • Thunderbirds

This summer we spent two weeks in New York and Washingon D.C.
On the last day we went early to Dulles Airport to fly home, then took a shuttle bus to the Steven F. Udvar-Hazy Center, National Air and Space Museum site on the other side of the run way. Well worth a visit if you're using that airport and free!
The Udvar-Hazy Center displays thousands of aviation and space artifacts, including the Space Shuttle Discovery and a Concorde, in two large hangars.

They have an amazing selection of air and space craft. I took many pictures but I'm pretty pleased with this one.

      Re: Thunderbirds

The problem with most Aircraft museums is a lack of space to get any perspective, in this shot you have surmounted the problem superbly, and I like the mono too.
The picture tells the story, great when you have a bad memory.DW.

        Re: Thunderbirds

        Thanks for the kind comments.
Most of the exhibits are clustered quite closely but this SR-71 is the centre piece of the air hanger so has a bit of space. It's also perfectly lined up in the centre which makes it ideal to shoot with symmetry in mind. Must have been a pig to get it there

We were visiting the museum on a Thursday lunchtime before an afternoon flight and it was very quiet which made it easier to get a nice shot. I suspect this site is never as packed as the other site on the National Mall in the middle of D.C. which is one of the most visited museums in the US.

I'm not usually keen on black and white conversions however, it really suits this shot, well done.

            Re: Thunderbirds

Thanks - I did the conversion as the biplane is bright yellow and there is a mixture of day light at the end of the shot and yellow artificial light under the SR-71.
I should probably credit Nik Silver Efex Pro 2 as it made a rather average shot into something I'm very pleased with

Great - I would call it an abstract shot - shapes

That's interesting, I've spent a fair bit of time looking at this image and didn't really pick up on the silhouette right in the middle of the frame! Thanks for the kind comments.
