  • Kingfisher not so pretty

Dave mentioned this in another thread, so here it comes ....... literally.

The Sacred kingfisher from NZ. Discarding what they can't digest taken with the Oly E-M10 and either the Canon FD 500 F/4.5L or 800 F/5.6L

That's a few anyway of that particular behaviour, not exactly pretty, but its natural.

    All the best folks.

    Danny.

Strange, after I posted in the other thread about getting the shot I Googled it and found lots of photos of various species regurgitating pellets. It must just be me who misses the shot.

I bet the 800mm is fun on 4/3.

Edit. I must add, your Sacred Kingfishers regurgitate much bigger pellets than the ones I've seen Common Kingfishers regurgitate.
It's the image that's important, not the tools used to make it.

Well caught Danny, you must have spent a lot of time watching the bird(s).

Danny - sensational high quality behavioural shots among the best I've seen bar none.

Thanks folks. Yeah Dave, the 800mm is fun on m4/3 and especially when the 1.4x TC is added. You certainly don't have to get quite so close that's for sure. 500mm is the favourite though, at least you can hand hold it. The 800 is tripod only.

Got a few Starlings doing that as well Dave, there are a lot of birds that do it and these are crab eating KF where these are taken, so it will be the crab shells getting throw up. Every 8-9 crabs and up it comes ;-)

All the best folks and thanks again.

              Danny.

I've found 500mm the most usable focal length with 4/3.

The Crab diet probably explains the size and frequency of pellet regurgitation.
