I haven't done much with the Olympus of late, as I'm trying to tame an entirely different beast of a camera. But I am on the hunt for a couple of long shots around Manchester.... Taken with the E-P5 and cheap 40-150. The subject is Beetham Tower, Manchester's so called Marmite Building.
I really like the irony of the nature of the business of the company which occupies the much more visually attractive building in the left foreground.

she looked at me and said "It's official. I hate your camera. It's just so amazing and perfect I want one!"

Nice shot, though the tower is no ornament to the City. I am rather fond of St Georges (mid-distance) which is now probably safe as a building since its conversion to flats which has been quite well done. I must try to find a way of getting a shot of it from high up in the tower block just out of picture on the right.
What I find most interesting about this shot is not so much the tower - it is functional and bland and I don't have much problem with that. But the picture shows very clearly what I feel about how a lot of cities look these days - it is an amorphous featureless mass. We have transport, business, residential and even the church all mixed up and there is no sense of identity or place. I don't get any feeling of wanting to go along the road, or investigate to either side, because there are loads of places like this that just go on for mile after mile. We are becoming a nation of ring roads
The contrasting architecture spans the centuries. I would prefer a studio in the older building - for my painting, I'll take the attic with skylights thank you.

At least the tower gives us something to look at!

Fully agree, one cityscape looks like any other as you drive around. Never have that " must stop and get a shot" feeling any more.
The picture tells the story, great when you have a bad memory.DW.
I reckon Internaut did a great job here, managing to get a shot of what is really a lot of nothing. It sums up perfectly the feelings I have when approaching somewhere like this along the road from the motorway or on the train.
