  • A couple from the beach

    Hi there everyone!

A couple more from my holiday in Devon, taken at the beach below our static caravan.

    1. Under a stormy sky

    2. Last of the sunlight on the cliffs

    Thanks for looking,

    Cheers,

    Ralph.

    Hi Ralph

Just out of curiosity have you used a cokin nd grad on the first photo.
I am seeing a strong colour cast over the upper portion of your photo, it doesn't look a natural colour.
I used to get something like that using cokin, before I moved to hi-tec filters.
I can almost hear the surf on the second.

    regards
    Steve

Love the figure giving scale to the cliffs and the reflection of sunlit cliffs, Harold.
Midnight, in bed on phone. Will take a proper look on the lapy at dawn.

Edit: At that hour Ralph Harwood = 'Harold', you see

        Hi there Steve!

I did have an ND grad on for that shot and the second one - not a cokin but a cheap copy. For some reason it doesn't seem to have had so much effect on the second shot. The sky did have a bit of a tinge to it but looking at the images later they do seem more purple than I remember it being.

        Cheers,

        Ralph.

          Hi there Mark!

You must be pretty tired - you called me Harold! On the original of the first image there is a second figure fishing in the sea - only about a dozen pixels high - but you can't see him at this scale. I enjoyed getting the reflection on the second one, even though I ended up with a wet knee.

          Cheers,

          Ralph.

The second scene looks like the beach in Broadchurch, and the lighting is very nice.

Lovely shots Ralph. That first one looks a bit stormy with that colour cast. Worked quite well I thought.

Ricoh - Not quite as up close and personal as I like for "street", but the inclusion of the figure has worked pretty well in the first one. It was typical though as initially I'd been walking up to the far end of the beach for some solitude as even at sunset there were still quite a few families on the beach near the holiday park. I had to walk pretty fast to overtake a dog walker and get some pics before he caught up, and then the runner appeared!

Phil - It was pretty stormy anyway, but the ND (allegedly) grad did help bring out the textures of the clouds. I will have to get a less purple ND grad at some point.

MrsT - the lighting was fantastic when the sun got below the clouds and started hitting the cliffs - it was only there for a couple of minutes and I'd already packed away the camera to start walking back to the van - fortunately I was able to get it back out and get the picture.

Apologies Ralph ... as I wake up a few times overnight I take my phone to bed to check posts now and then.

The only explanation I can offer as to how the misnomer came about is at that bleary-eyed hour Ralph Harwood became 'Harold', you see

But now with clear eyes I can fully appreciate those two lovely seascapes that are full of salty atmosphere.
I like them both equally for the different moods they express. Absolutely pompomulous, Haralph ...

That is quite some praise (I think)

#1 stands out; the different colouring makes it more unusual and interesting.
