I really like this one, Ian, simple but extremely effective. Was it a spot or did you arrange it?
The picture tells the story, great when you have a bad memory.DW.

^^ it was right on that very spot; I try not to move anything from as I saw 1st it.....never looks the same somehow and I'm hopeless at seeing something that isn't already there or dreaming up a photo and then putting it all together as other true art photographers can. like most; I'm a recording photographer.

I will post a couple more edits of this trolley later; and the few originals I took.

Superb use of light, shade and shadow. I've just faved it on Flickr; if it was in the forum gallery I would have scored it 10 out of 10.

Great artistic / abstract photo Ian, very simplistic but effective, and certainly something a bit different.

I really like the interplay between gritty road, soft shadow and crystal clear trolley.

I don't recall ever seeing an artistic shot of (just) a shopping trolley before!

                Re: just a shopping trolly

WOW; thank you all. It's all about the light; low sun/long shadows and some lazy sod leaving the trolley parked on the roadway
Was very easy to edit; mainly dragging the LR slider to the left to darken the file

                Thank you

Yes but you saw the potential and made the shot. Really simple but very effective. In fact I bet it was actually quite difficult to make such an ordinary object look so interesting. Actually that's a great title for a thread "Ordinary but Interesting" the success of images will definitely depend on the skill of the photographer.

You're off your trolley Nice shadows. Overall though I still prefer the first shot you posted.

That first shot is class and a good example of the fact light make the difference.

Cheers Alf, so very true. I'm starting to notice how much of a tourist photographer I have become .
Tourist photographer?? They are only out and about between 10 am and 4 pm
Not many long shadows or golden light around then

                              Re: just a shopping trolly

                              Hi there Ian!

I really love the first image, which to me works because of the seperation of lights and darks within the image - the bright silver of the trolley against the black background, and the sharply defined shadow on the brighter speckled tarmac.

The second image does have the shadows on the tarmac, but doesn't feel as well balanced to me, nor does the third, so whilst they are good photos the first is great!

At this time of year I get to see a lot of golden hour (in principle at least - go away clouds) but I would never have spotted the potential in this first photo - I need to keep my eyes open a lot more!

                              Cheers,

                              Ralph.
