Using Harold`s id I discovered that it is thought to be the only insect that uses mechanical gears in its body.
Apparently they synchronise the two rear legs so that it jumps straight.
Fascinating stuff!

Well Ian that is a weevil in a partly dried out yellow flower IMO.

It`s a weevil hiding in a gold coloured iris.

I've rotated this 90 degrees - it was actually perched on the outside of a window pane. I used a 40-150 Pro with MC14 and its legs nearly spanned the width of the frame at closest focus. I'd like to find out what it is!

Flies Through Printing Nikkor 105mm

I found these images today in a remote corner of my PC. They were RAW files, not processed until today

They were shot in 2014 on my previous camera, an Olympus EP2, which I didn't like much. However, It was capable of producing some good images. These were at f8. I used flash.

The images are uncropped.
