Itchy & Scratchy: Browntail Moth Larva
My wife called to me to go out into the garden. This usually means she wants me to do something far less important than what I am doing.
Occasionally, it means she has found something that is likely to be of interest to me, as was the care this afternoon.
She pointed out a caterpillar descending vertically down the wall of our house. It was motionless at that time. Its position was very unhelpful for photography. There were heavy tables, covered with potted plants, between me and the wall. My views of the larva were limited. Eventually, I picked it up (not the best idea in this case*) and put it on a black rubber gardening glove on our lawn.
The harsh sunshine was far from ideal and I have done a lot to moderate it digitally.
It is decades since I last saw this species.

Nemophora Longhorn Moth
This was in my garden in May 2019. This does not seem to fit the species I can find images of. I think it is a female Early Longhorn, N. cuprella which has lost most of its scales.
