Communal Dragonfly, Butterfly and Insect photo thread
Re: Communal Dragonfly, Butterfly and Insect photo thread
I think I might have said this elsewhere on here but my 40-150 is noticeably sharper than my 12-100. Maybe I have a slightly out of tolerance copy, don't know. It's still, however, my go-to lens so it's not all bad.
More my usual thing with the E-M1 and Sigma 105 E-X25 and STF-8 flash
Alf, lovely colours and well worth the extra time it will have taken. Phill is right a good macro in skilled hands is well worth it. Good year for OTs so far.

Yes. a few days ago, I saw three* males flying around each other then two females together. The females were chased by a Brimstone, and then the other way round. At some stage a comma got involved. All of this in the space of about one minute.
* Definitely a record for the garden.
Holly Blues and Speckled Woods are about, as are the nymphalids (no Painted Lady yet).

Anyone know what is happening here
I shot this the other day I did not know what it was at the time. I know it is a caterpillar of some sort or a sawfly larvae but is pupating or has been parasitised.

I can see a leg, so it is not dipteran. Those tubes look like tracheae.
