Another of the local Barneys. Occasionally barn owls will hunt earlier due to demanding chicks and despite their demanding chicks this pair refuse to get going until after sundown, so i'm limited to low light conditions. I'll try to catch them fledging though sometime in the next week.
Some American Avocets from Saskatchewan. Slide copies of shots from the 90's.
First a pair feeding, the male in the foreground.
Next, a male bathing.
And finally, I don't know what's going on here, the female looks like she is ready to mate, the male looks like he's getting ready to go out on a date.
It's the image that's important, not the tools used to make it.
Finally got a clear view of Mrs Redstart, while having camera at hand.

Two of the chicks left the nest on June 12. Sadly they did not make it through the first night. Those who survived have been seen and heard around since then. I had to assist one of them this morning finding the way out of my house this morning, it looked healthy, although terrified.
What a delightful little fledgling Tord. It's great to see the start of the distinctive orange tail. It's a bird that I don't see much in my part of the world, except on passage. I see more Black Redstarts than Commons.
