Re: Communal Bird Photography Thread
Eight Little Grebes were pottering about in the sunshine at Lake Lothing today, all of them rather distant. As usual they were extremely adept at diving just as I was about to press the shutter button, before resurfacing in a completely different spot and staring at me. They never swam toward me under the water, though.

Re: Communal Bird Photography Thread
This large bird just settled in a tree in our garden and was blowing around in the wind.
Shot through double glazing on a windy day. Had to use manual focus and focus peaking to get the bird in focus because of all the branches in front of it.
Not sure exactly what bird it is but it was quite large. We do have a few pigeons/doves around here but they are all grey or have a white collar and a lot smaller than this one.
Can anyone tell me what it is.

Re: Communal Bird Photography Thread
I photographed my first presentable Bittern on Friday. I managed about 10 shots in the less than a minute he showed from the reeds. I posted three shots and a nice Robin (four pictures in all) on my Flickr page. Today all four have been taken up in Explore (sort of picture of the day spot) and I am getting all sorts of nice comments.
I can't post them here as that was my C**** and 100-400. I did have Olympus kit with me but the appearance was so brief I didn't get the chance to swap. Not sure the 40-150 and teleconverter would have got as close but i'd like to have had 5 minutes to try.
But I am so thrilled to get a shot at a Bittern, and four shots in Explore too. I just wanted to share it with Ron and the other bird enthusiasts.
best wishes
Peter

Re: Communal Bird Photography Thread
Hi Peter. I noticed these on your Flickr page yesterday. Very nice! It is always exciting to see a Bittern, especially one this showy. I'm glad to see you still have some Olympus gear but I don't quite see how it fits in with your new camera and the Canon. Hopefully you will still be able to post some shots here from time to time. Congratulations on Explore, although it is all a bit of a mystery to me.
