  • Houghton Lodge (where?)

Wet grey miserable Bank Holiday. We don't want to end up stuck in a traffic jam going the the same place as everyone else. No...

So we revisited Houghton Lodge (Hampshire, near excellent Stockbridge). It was almost empty: Probably about 8 families there. The tea shop was open. We got a bit wet, but what a nice quiet experience.

    Here's the Pete snaps:

Arty stuff at the end of the tea room conservatory. Lovely.

I don't often take pictures of swans these days, but in this case I make an artistic exception...

Hi, I also have never heard of Houghton Lodge but seems like a nice place to visit. I love no2, the woodshed with all the moss on the roof, (as they say in my neck of the woods) a beltin pic, thanks

I particularly like No 4, you have an uncanny knack of doing this type of photograph so well.

I like #4 too. I would never have thought of cropping it like that, I'd have tried to include all of the subjects and just produced an ordinary snap. Nice tip Pete.

Many thanks folks. You made an old bloke very happy...

Yes: The clock and bush picture just jumped out at me as I looked down the old long greenhouse (now part of the tea shop). On the end wall was the clock, a tree and a door.

But how to frame and take the picture? There was the unwelcome door that forced the composition and meant I had to push the tree half out of frame in order to exclude the door* That is not my usual approach to composition but in this case I think it turned out surprisingly well.

                Pete

*I have been known to rearrange the world slightly to assist a composition if no-one is looking, but I wasn't going to get away with that on this occasion.
