    Re: Sunset at work

I like this, a lot. Why?

    - There's nothing extraneous in the photo, that you could take away and it would still be as good
    - the palette is restricted to a few colours but my, how you've made them sing!
    - the composition IMO is good, with interesting diagonals, a couple of 'thirds' and - especially - those lines converging on the main firework, the setting sun.
    - the red ground (?sandy?) is gorgeous, and textured enough to provide a foil for the clouds without a distraction for the eye. Similarly, there's just a hint of detail in the silhouetted buildings and machinery, so it's not flat black (quite) and again, it gets the message across without distraction.

I think it makes a really lovely picture.

Have to agree with Makonde - great impact, nothing to drag the eye away from the sunset - but enough foreground to give it interest/context.

If you want me to criticise (and you did say you were really trying) then I'd wonder if some of the foreground edges are a bit soft and may be a distraction if printed at a larger size, whether this is due to f-number or shutter speed (understandable in that light) I'm not sure.

Thanks, I thought a bit of a sharpen would help ??

Yes, besides the colours being great I also love the lines.

It may well - but sharpening is 2'nd best to getting it as sharp as possible in the camera, and it can be a prop we lean on too hard (I know I have) when we should improve our shooting technique.

But it was only a minor criticism - more of a comment really.

This is a lovely shot. The colours are fantastic

You've got a great balance with some of the foreground being seen but enough to give the sky the main presence.

                A cracking shot, well done.

Wish I could catch sights like this on the way to work

                    Hi John
I agree some of the scenery round here is stunning, although haven't made of the best of it togging wise recently.

                    Cheers

                        Re: Sunset at work

                        That's not so crazy lol

We bought a tent this september with the intention of going camping at loch lomond, there's a lovely campsite that we've passed quite a few times on the loch side. Unfortunately thought the weekend we were going to go, it absolutely poured down
There's also a cracking campsite in Glencoe at the back of The Kings House Hotel.

Where abouts are you planning on heading?
We do get a few dry days, on occasion lol

                          Re: Sunset at work

This is another lovely sunset - like it

I agree with all the comments above, but what I also like about it is that it's in an industrial setting - the two almost extreme opposites, but they go so well together here.

                          Nice one !

I hesitate to comment because I am a novice but I think this is a lovely shot. I always like sunsets but this one is special. I think Makonde said it all.
