A great set Andy. Number 2 is rather special. Lord Sugar? I thought it was Sid James in 'Carry on Crier'.

Number 2 is a bit special. The first reminds me of old (or was it young) Mr Grace from Are You Being Served?
It's the image that's important, not the tools used to make it.

Thanks Andy, some great pics of one of our favourite places, close to where I was born. Great memories of going to the Copper Kettle in Mermaid Street with my Grandparents as a child and the pleasure of introducing my wife to the place (she promptly fell in love with Rye Pottery )

Your shots of the roofs and Mermaid Street are my favourites out of this group, (must get down for a week-end once the holidays are over and the tourists move on)

                        Andy,
#2 is great - without the satellite dishes it would be even better.

Even the town crier looks as old as parts of the town! Always fancied going there, never managed it. Looks a nice place. And a nice set of photos. Shame about the new building in #5 though. If there's a nice view, the planners always have to spoil it, don't they?

I can understand your comment about the building as seen in this view (the "Velux" skylights). However, IMHO in this case the planners have actually done a good job. The building in question is on the old quay (Strand) and has been designed to match, with great sensitivity the much older maritime buildings along the quay which have been renovated (and adapted for modern use) to record an important part of Rye's significant maritime history.

                              From Google Street View.

                              1/ The building in question.

2/ From further down the Quay.

3/ The Quay across the road.

Rye is very much worth a visit, just a matter of the "point of view".

                              Regards.
