    Spotted in my garden.

    I saw this little fellow busily visiting honeysuckle and other flowers in my garden today. It was really cute and at first I thought it was a strange species of bee. Then when I got closer I honestly thought it was a hummingbird in Uttoxeter! Well it's very warm here but not that warm.
    I grabbed my camera and tried hard to get a clear shot but the little blighter flitted about and never settled. I think it's a Humming Bird Moth or Hawk moth. Whatever it was I hope it comes back.
    I used the new 14-150mm f4-5.6 ED II Lens. Quite frankly it's hardly been off my camera since buying it.

    We had one a couple of weeks back. It was also on Red Campion - same as yours. I must put an image up.

      Me too, on lavender here though. Trouble was I had the new 7-14mm on the camera at the time!

        Morning all.
        I don't know if there's been a significant shift in the Earth's axis recently and nobody's bothered to mention it but I have now got a strange bird living nearby too (no not the neighbours wife!). For the past few weeks at around 5:30am I've been hearing a loud two-tone, TOOT-SWEET bird call. I got up this morning to try and spot it without luck but I have discovered that it is actually a Northern Bob White quail native to the USA, Mexico and the Caribbean. It seems to be moving around the area so It's not a captive. It's probably an escaper. I've been playing a recording of it's call to see if I can get it to come into sight without any luck. I'll keep watching out for it though.

          Now you've posted this, get ready to be overrun by twitchers!

          Better work out how much to charge for admission to your garden and which way around the block they should queue. Also set a price for teas, coffees and bacon sandwiches - and get down to cash & carry ASAP!

            I've managed to get a not very spectacular picture of the noisy bird. I spotted it on the roof of a neighbour's house this morning. I couldn't get very close so I had to resort to my 75-300mm hand held but it's enough to confirm that it is indeed a Northern Bobwhite Quail.
