  • Sand Martins and predator

Since about 10 years back we have a colony of Sand Martins that have settled down in the gravel banks at the recycling site. The colony has grown over the years and ATH is this year, with around 700 pairs, and growing. Access to the recycling site is strictly restricted however there are good photo opportunities by the nearby meadows offering an abundance of food, gnats mostly.

Sharing the best ones that came out from a good hour and hundreds of shutter releases.

E-M1, quite heavy crops (distance 10-12 m). The AF seems not capable of locking at closer distances than this.

At one point all of the Sand Martins vanished. Not surprising considering this guy making an entry. (Apologies for lack of detail, 200mm is way too short and no time to mount a more suitable lens before he/she left the site).

That shot of it about to catch the insect is fantastic. All round a fine set, as ever.

Very nice, and the #4 - well grabbed, that man!

I must post a photo of what I think is a thrush...but not like ours. I'll bet you know what it is, Tord.

          Incredible series, especially the "bite"!
