  • School play taken with G1 and some Zuikos

This was first posted on FTU, but as I was inspired by John (theMusicMan) and his daughter's school play, I thought I'd post here as well:

I brought the Lumix G1 to my daughter's school play this evening. I decided that kit lens might be a bit too slow for the lighting, so I brought a 14-35 f/2 and the 14-54 MkII. Here is a selection - click on any of them to go to my gallery where there are several more, complete with exif data. Most of these are quite severe crops because I was right at the back of the the theatre! All are from camera JPEGs rather than RAW, incidentally - tweaked in Lightroom 2.

The play, incidentally, was Thoroughly Modern Millie

They look pretty good Ian, are you pleased?

A couple of questions, what white balance setting did you use, that an area I always find tricky at that kind of event because of the varios stage lights (although I think the local school just like using every colour lamp because they can) and also how was the focusing anthey AF or manual

    Cheers

I think they look very good.. Black is where it should be (i.e. black)

From experience, one is generally in the hands of the Lighting director, and in this case the lighting seems nice and even. Plus as stated above, the white balance looks great.

An excellent eye catching cast as well :-)

      Well done

Look, I'm an old man. I shouldn't be expected to put up with this.

It's far too much to expect of AWB in situations like this so I set it manually to 3000K. I also used manual focus because the dynamic magnified focus view is so convenient to use - you turn the focus ring and the view (both viewfinder and external LCD) magnifies so you can focus very accurately.

The blacks are good partly because of adjustment in LR (which has a black level adjuster) and because I stuck to 200 or 400 ISO. Even so, the dark tones are reasonably clean to start with.

I think I could get an even better result if I could develop the RAW files in LR, but these are from the JPEGs.

Those are very, very good - can someone remind me how you get the EXIF in the gallery. My eyes are aching now looking for how to get it... wherever it is, it's not bliddy obvious!!

Click on the camera icon under the picture. You may need to scroll down afterwards.

I'm trying to find a way of making the exif appear by default.
