  • La Defense, Paris

Took advantage of a business trip to spend a day playing tourist in Paris on Saturday. Apart from the usual touristy / Eiffel Tower shots (I may bore you with those later in another thread), I went out to the La Defense complex, where there's a lot of modern architecture. On a nice sunny day, there were some fabulous reflections to be had, and a lot of 'interesting' buildings to ponder over.

This one looks like it swallowed the starship Enterprise:

Lots of people sneer at La Defense as a modernistic "cultural wasteland" compared to the rest of Paris, and possibly it is, but for photographers there's a lot to catch the eye, and it's worth a few hours of your time if you're ever in the area.

How odd - second time I've seen images of it today (the others were from a friend)! Rather nice images there Margaret; and as you say, the reflections make the shots.

I do like the way the IR one makes it look so different.

        Thanks for showing them

I used to visit La Defense on a weekly basis, your pictures brought back "some" memories.

Looks like they have a 'gherkin' as well as London.

Yes, very similar design, except that the top of the 'dome' is open plan in the French one ... just girders and fresh air.

Remarkable and imaginative pictures of a fantastic venue - whatever may be said about it! I'm sure that windmills and thatched cottages were once regarded as "modernistic" when they first started to appear. All that is today regarded as traditional, historical and picturesque had to be new at some point.
