Now they are proper deer, aren't they, antlers and all! (BTW - the lens - don't you mean the 'less expensive' version? )

Definitely the less expensive version Keith but its more manageable and lighter than the 2.8 PRO - and the IQ isn't too bad either

Yes, I'm quite pleased with mine, Mike. I use the 40-150 mostly with my PL3, where its lightness and small size is great. For my M5 I bought the 75-300; only criticism of that is small aperture at the long end - unlike my Canon 100-400 L; but I got fed up with the weight of the Canon - 1.3 kg, plus almost another kg for the camera body, so the Oly 75-300 was a revelation.

I don't think I could justify the cost of the 40-150 PRO. If it was 75-300, yes.

            Re: Stag Party

I've borrowed my mate's 75-300 to see how it performs.
I normally use my 100-400L or Tamron 150-600 on either my 70D or 6D.
I've even used them on my EOS M
The weight difference between the Olympus and Tamron is like chalk & cheese!!
The Tamron wins hands down for IQ though but I'm sure with a bit of practice I'll get the hang of the 75-300.
If/when the Olympus 300 f4 comes on the market, providing its a top notch lens which I don't doubt it will be, then I think this will be the final straw for my Canon cropped sensor kit.
Not ready to dispose of my Canon FF + L lenses or my EOS M kit just yet though

I'm wondering what they'll charge for that 300 f4. If the price is reasonable, it could be brilliant for wildlife. But all manufacturers seem to go for is "premium" lenses now (for which read "premium price"), and it's hard to justify big money unless it has a lot of use. I don't use my kit much now, with age and health against me, and also time. So many other things to do! I bought my M5 in August, and it's taken just 1795 shutter actuations so far - 2/3 of those at just two events. Now the Canon kit has gone, maybe that'll increase.

Now that must have been a sight to have come across, I can only imagine.
                Regards Paul.
One day I hope to be the person my dogs think I am.

A few years ago, I was walking back to the car when I spotted a photographer with his huge tripod mounted Nikon + lens.
He asked if Id mind staying back as I had my dog with me and he was trying to photograph a hind.
This I did and we spoke for a while before parting ways.
I was putting my stuff into the car when I felt a gentle nudge at my back and there was the hind
I spoke to the Ranger, another fellow 'tog, who told me that some of the orphaned Fawns were hand reared by his wife and this was one of them.
I'd have loved to see the photographer's face as I had the hind eating out of my hand

And if you could have got the photgrapher AND the hind eating out of your hand in one shot, that would have been a shot worth Wildlife Photographer of the Year!

I bet that group wouldn't be so placid and peaceful together in October!

It's quite unnerving when you hear them roaring but can't see them.
They blend into the hillside so well
