It's not actually Graham, its a single exposure taken at f2.8, ISO 1600. Bit noisy, and I've just noticed the horizontal is off a bit, I should have noticed before posting.

Push the contrast a little and make the colour punchy. The B&W is flat in my opinion, much is lost in the conversion; texture in the beams and the green colouring to the right. Its a powerful image as it stands, a little work and it could be a massive stand out to me, either B&W or colour

Thanks for providing feedback, that's exactly what I'm after as its the only way I'm going to learn. Which colour would you suggest I push?

I was thinking contrast a little, perhaps give it a very light faux HDR? Or if you wanted B&W to make it gritty with a few layers to pull a mood to the image.

On a quick play, inverting the colours gives an interesting edge to it

Lovely image Steve. I think it could do with the highlights taking down a tad though. I'd be very happy to have a hack on the raw if you post a link to it.

Yes, typical problem of such a contrasty subject: burn out on the highlights, but easily recovered in RAW. Could be a v nice low-key subject.

OK - here's a quick edit I did:



- Cropped
- Converted to mono
- Toned down some of the too-bright areas
- Upped clarity
- Tuned down highlights
- Deepened blacks
- Added sharpening
- Slight toning

That looks a lot better Paul - but I reckon it could go quite a bit darker/lower key, and would be more dramatic for it. Not sure about the cropping though; it looked good symmetrical.
