Certainly catches the mood in the woods. But I think you were ill served by the light which must have been quite flat.
I've always found in woods shot difficult (perhaps why I've done so few recently), because unless the light creates highlights and tones then the eye (particularly on small presentations) doesn't know where it is wanted to go.
That old tree in the last one is well worth a visit back in brighter conditions.

Hello Nick.
Both of my initial outings on the last two weekends have had this grey, flat, overcast sky.
I am in total agreement with you on the look and feel but without filtration there is not a lot that could be done with my limited knowledge at this stage.
Hopefully I will learn how to cope with these days and produce something from them.
Next weekend is the South Downs for some landscapes so hopefully some brighter skies.

It's a very nice group of pictures, I agree that the flat light hasn't helped because the area would look so beautiful with some sunshine. I hope you're able to get back there on a brighter day before all the leaves fall.
