  • Melbourne Cyclists

Yesterday on impulse for something to do, I hurriedly packed a camera bag just in time to catch the 10:00 AM train to Melbourne.
I took only the E-3 and one lens (the 40-150 kit) for street photography with an emphasis on cyclists.

The cute young lass in blue gave the camera a smile as she stopped at the lights,
whereas the other sedate young lady bringing up the rear chose not to notice it.

The constabulary were also out on their 'pushies' - once they road horses but cycles are cheaper no doubt.
Two seem to have spotted me in my Quo Vadis polo top and lime green back pack.

Melbourne is a cycling friendly city inasmuch as the local government assigns cycle lanes that encourage it.

These two guys aren't cyclists at all although the one with the sling may have been one until recently

I caught the 6:02pm train home, a 270km journey that takes 3 hours.
After 6 hours and 540kms travel in all it had been a long day.

Like it Mark - you enjoy photographing beardies too, then.

The closest of those cops look like he couldn't catch a cold on the bike or off it - he's been at the Hungry Jack's too much! The one at the back is not exactly svelte, either. BTWE - the bokeh looks a bit odd in that shot...?
I do like the horse with the plumes; what's that for?

Looks a very busy city. Interesting shots.

Cyclists - good topic to explore, better than smokers, defo.
Like the one of girl in white top, blue shorts - has a really nice smile! Coincidentally the next shot (happens to be another female) is very good, she's obviously concentrating as reflected in facial expression.
The guy with left arm in a sling looks at first sight to be an extremely foolish cyclist, ready to ride off single handed, but the trolley handle removes any doubt...
Very good set Mark, worth taking and presenting to us.

          Few lycra-clads around then?
The weather here has been great all week meaning that I have been upping my cycle commuter mileage. Hopefully by the time I get home later, I will have clocked up over 210 miles. I think that I love cycling as much as photography although both are wallet-draining (just ordered a frameset and other stuff to build another road bike).

I enjoy photographing anything in which I see an interesting picture, Keith.
Even if one or two of those cops are a tad overweight, if you're a crook then stay out of their taser range!
The bokeh was an intended PP effect to separate the foreground from the background.
The horses are harnessed to carriages that take tourists around town.

Thanks for those observations, Steve. Yes, I like the one of the girl in blue too - not sure if she;s smiling or laughing at me ... if only I were 60 years younger!

I just had to check back to find the "smiley girl in blue". Now if you had said the "rider on the tasty black Bianchi" I would have known immediately who you meant....

... maybe I do need to get out more
