You zoom by pulling out the lens so it's a real hand full to use, I have tried it on a bean bag and this shot was taken with a monopod attached to the lens.
I've not yet tried the moon, although I have plans to use this and and 800mm Samyang Mirror lens for that! I suspect that the mirror lens, being a whole lot shorter, will be more stable on a tripod.
I own a lot of manual focus lenses so am used to the technique but the Dorr enlarges so much that holding the camera and lens steady while I get the focus right is hard work, and my keeper %age is low at around 30% of the shots taken. For comparison my 75-300 lens keeper rate is well over 66% for similar, but closer, shots.

My M5 looks lost on the end of a 500! But then, what about people with DSLRs and huge lenses? You see 'em standing the whole shebang upright on the lens hood. Long enough to use as a stool.
