Re: Maddie
I'm astonished that nobody else has spotted this picture, probably because it was buried in amongst others.
I think it's a lovely picture, well framed and well composed. I like the "high key" too.

Re: Maddie
Thank you for your nice comment Ellie. I am beginning to feel that this forum is not for me. They are a very friendly bunch but do seem reluctant to comment. I would not balk at any critique good or bad but my images do not seem to fit into what is required, so I either soldier on or quit. I will give it a little more time then perhaps fade away
Best Regards

Re: Maddie
Hi Malcolm
Due to time out from my camera and wedding arrangements I haven't been on here much, but I have found some of my shots get a lot of views but very little comments.
I really like this shot, you've really captured the feeling of the space the dog's looking in to. I think the crop you've chosen works very well
Was there a doggy treat being held up to get her attention in that direction?
Can I ask how your lighting was set up?
As a personal thing I would maybes try and lighten Maddie's face a teeny bit, so there's a bit more of the fur detail being shown. But that said, I do really like how the lighting is highlighting certain areas.
I think it's a very nice shot, thanks for sharing it

I have enjoyed looking at all your photos but haven't commented on them much. The reason being that while I find many to my personal taste others I don't fully understand, so rather than say something that may be seen as critical I've kept quiet.
From your last message you seem to happy to recieve both plaudits criticism, perhaps others have felt the same and will now be more prepared to offer their opinions, I will for sure.
So here goes
I liked the image of Maddie very much "the eyes have it" she is obviously looking at something above her head but I wondered why so much white space above?

Re: Maddie
Hi Susan and Gno. Firstly the lighting was just two softboxes aimed at a white sheet. Secondly...Yes, she did have a treat to look up to. As for lightening the hair around the dogs face. I felt that adding more of that would detract from the eye which was the main point of focus.
Gno. In certain circumstances, I believe that the subject should be given room to breathe. I know this is not everyones idea of good portraiture and respect their views but we all see things differently and thank God for that. That's what makes photography for me.
Many thanks

Re: Maddie
I commented in the gallery on 1 November. Probably more use could be made of the gallery for browsing and leaving comments.Originally posted by Malcolm Cousins View PostThank you for your nice comment Ellie. Of course you can get hundreds of comments on flickr but nearly all of them are worthless .....
I'm fairly new to this forum but I have had some helpful comments partiicularly when I briefly outline what I was trying to do.

Re: Maddie
Dear Malcolm,
You have done well with this shot because you have a cat lover really appreciating a dog! Great composition and it has that magic ingredient for me, the image just leaps out a grabs your attention.
Many congratulations

Re: Maddie
Hey Malcolm, I always enjoy looking at your pictures even if I don't always comment. It really would be a loss to this forum if you left us!
I really like this picture, especially Maddie's expression and the look in her eye. Was there a doggy choc drop being held just out of frame?
Top stuff, keep on posting!
Cheers,John

Re: Maddie
I think its an excellent image!
As to comments: Well, I guess this is still a "fairly recent" site and we don't have a huge number of members. But those we do have are dedicated and knowledgable

Re: Maddie
I'd be sorry as if you did - posts like this help me learn - I would never have thought of a shot like this and I enjoyed seeing it and hearing how it was done as I had images of hours of careful background removal before you explainedOriginally posted by Malcolm Cousins View PostThank you for your nice comment Ellie. Like many I don't get enough time to brows the images that are posted and I do tend to those that are showing up in the forums rather than just browsing the gallery. I will take this as a reminder that people want that feedback - I know that I like it when it happens.
