  • Lochaber and Ardnamurchan

I drove my very elderly mother up to visit my sister near Fort William last weekend, a trip she has been looking forward to for the past year or so. We had a brilliant weekend, with a lot of reminiscing and visits to some favourite family holiday spots from nearly fifty years ago.
The autumn colours were spectacular but the weather was very mixed and much time was spent wiping raindrops off the front of the camera lens - but it did make for some dramatic lighting. Most of the pictures are from around Loch Arkaig or from a run we took out to the Ardnamurchan peninsula:

    1. View from the living room window across Loch Arkaig to the mouth of Glen Mallie:

2.Murlaggan - near the head of Loch Arkaig. 12 miles up a dead end single track switchback road:

    3. The White Bridge (well it used to be white...) at the lower end of Loch Arkaig

4.The red deer rut is in full swing - this stag had gathered a small harem of 4 hinds on the hill behind the house:

    5. Beinn Resipol and Loch Sunart on the Ardnamurchan peninsula:

6.The road to Kilchoan and beyond - the mountains of Rum and the Sgurr of Eigg out to the west:

7.The Isle of Muck lit by the early evening sun with the Rum Cuillin beyond, seen from near Ardnamurchan point:

    8. Evening light, Camus na Gael and Ben Hiant:

9.The deer fence - essential if you want to cultivate any sort of garden in the Highlands, also useful for drying the washing:

Big Sis got to spend quality time with her mum, kids got to see their granny, and I got time off to get some serious togging done. All in all, a great weekend for everyone.

Terrific set of images David, you have captured the light and the scenery beautifully. I've never been further than Strontian on the Ardnamurchan, I must try to get there soon.

A fine set of gorgeous landscapes but No1 excels - that is really special.

Bad weather's got to be good for something and I think you've found out what. Great shots. Love the first one especially.

Some great lighting and the first is a bit special.
It's the image that's important, not the tools used to make it.
