  • Insects with dew on them

Here are a couple from this morning before I went to bed after night shift. The batteries in flash went flat after these and my spares were flat too so the others were high ISO after this.

    Hi there Alf!

That first image is just amazing! I love the reflection in the bead of dew on the top of the flys head. Just amazing! I would have that as a poster on the wall.

    Keep them coming Alf

    Cheers,

    Ralph.

Alf, I have never understood the fascination with flies but that may have more to do with my childhood in Benghazi where we always seemed to be fighting them off. Nonetheless No.1 is a really good shot.

Those are some fantastic pics. I'm guessing you are using a macro lens.

Love the first one Alf as someone else said the reflection in the dew is great, i can never get them to stay still long enough.

The fascination is the details in that we do not normally see. Insect are also however annoying are vital to the worlds eco system.

These were indeed taken with a macro lens though alternatives can be used like supplementary lenses like the Raynox MCR 150/250 which much cheaper but no easier to use.

Andy in the morning when it is cool they are slower and easier (note that is a relative term) to shoot. The fly never actually moved from that spot.

You just need to learn to be quicker and learn to stalk the subject

Thats why I like the sigma as the focusing is not fly by wire and it is really responsive which as AF is a waist of time for this type of stuff is important.

Stunning images especially the first one. I really need to get out of bed earlier to catch insects covered in dew I have looked lots of times in the garden but never anything there

                    Thanks Anne
It just a matter looking in the right places long grass in a field or park on the roadside anywhere really. Thern seeing what is sitting still waiting to warm up for the day.

There is a difference between looking and seeing though.
