Vera Arrived at Durham Tees Valley

Air show at Durham Tees Valley tomorrow. I was unable to get tickets, but passed by the airport this afternoon and saw a crowd at the end of the runway. "When is it coming?" I asked. About 10 minutes came the reply.

Two hours later it arrived. I have never tried shooting aircraft with m4/3 before, although I could do it OK with the E1/E620/E5.

During the 2 hour wait I got some practice with the E-M5 and 40-150.

I am well pleased with this result, however, comments would be welcome.

Nice shot maybe a slower shutter speed to get prop blur?

I agree a slightly slow shutter speed to give a little more blur.

I hope to see the pair of Lancaster fly at Prestwick air show on the 6th September. We are going to the Highlands for two week and will be stopping off at Ayr for the show.

Yes, I was feeling my way here, I was concerned about not blurring the aircraft. I was using Aperture priority at f7.1 and ISO 400. It gave me 1/1600. Maybe if I had used shutter priority at 1/800 it would have been better.

The most nerve racking aspect was using the EVF, which had the plane completely blurred out of view until you focused. I used the all points setting, and had to keep up above the trees as it would have focused on them. With the old OVF you could always see things coming.

Yes indeed, about 50 metres to go to the start of the runway.

You have captured a very good shot of a Lancaster landing and that should be good enough for anybody.

Having been at an Air-Show last week I now understand how hard it is take pics at such events.

Thank you! It was a big learning process and I am just writing a new post asking for advice on how to do this properly. I will post it in a few minutes.

It's details like the "right" amount of prop blur that can turn a good aircraft picture into a great one. However, the dilemma is do you risk blurring the whole subject when you've only got one chance? In this situation I would have played safe too, but maybe would have been a bit more adventurous if it had done a second pass, having already got a safe shot in the bag.
