  • small bits from the garden

A break in the showers gave me the chance to stop printing and framing and have a look in the garden (but of course it was still blowing a Hooley! , just what was needed for macro work )

I managed a face to face encounter with a Red Admiral using the EM-5 + 60mm macro

but decided to change over to the EM-1 + 50-200 to have more chance of catching the action in the wind

Still very little about (I keep missing an Hummingbird Hawk Moth that appears for about 30secs then flies into my neighbours garden! ) so had to make do with a Common Carder bee feeding on Blackcurrant Salvia

Oh well, maybe things will improve in the Autumn?

Sneak into next door and surprise/ confuse it? Great shots the head on red is a super shot.

One more with the EM-5 + 60mm I found that was the only one of a series that came out reasonably well because of the movement of the shrubs, this garden spider has just taken the fly after the two of them sat there for some time apparently trying to out-stare each other.

Its just turning it prior to beginning to wrap it (I'm guessing the pinkish colour on the belly of the fly may be the effect of the venom from the spider bite?)

and a Dronefly with the EM-5 + 60mm, again one of the few that were achieved among the moving leaves

Not nice to throw a spider shot in on me Brian, but I forgive you because the Red Admiral was worth the look.
