  • Reed Warbler

Another first for me this one. I popped into a reserve I hadn't been to before today near Welshpool. I was awarded with a new species. It was a dull overcast day and the weather was drizzly so not the best I'm afraid.

An extremely elusive little bird. You can hear it, you can see the reeds moving as it hops around the stems but it very rarely shows itself and when it does it's gone again just as quick. In about an hour this afternoon I managed about 4 shots of it!

    Re: Reed Warbler

they are difficult little birds aren't they Tim.

Just now and then during the breeding season and again when the fledglings are demanding feeding ours become less cautious, otherwise they sit down in the reeds and giggle at the frustrated photographers who can hear them but never see them

Four nice shots there, lacking a little feather detail (post-processing?) but the eye and beak details are good and they can clearly be identified - no mean feat

      Re: Reed Warbler

Thank you Brian, I may try and return on a sunnier day. I am beginning to enjoy this bird photography. I have no idea what I am photographing most of the time until I get home and look it up.

We have Swifts bombing about the sky here at the moment but I have had 0% success with them.
      Thanks
      Tim

        Re: Reed Warbler

it can be a bit addictive Tim, especially once you get hooked on learning their different behaviour patterns (and then of course you want to photograph them and so you get sucked in )

These little fellows set a good challenge Tim and you did well with this one.
I enjoy watching them darting about and watching the reeds move in the hope you can get a clear shot. Good sport!

            Thank you Lyn.

Following Brians comments regarding loss of detail i revisited one of the pictures and reprocessed it and cropped differently too leaving more of the habitat in.

                Re: Reed Warbler

These birds are extremely shy and difficult to photograph. I have heard loads of them this year but don't have a single photograph. A very nice job Tim.
