  • Nuffield Place details

So. William Morris, aka Lord Nuffield, father of the Morris car and warm hearted philanthropist was also, apparently a Good Egg. (yes. Google it....)

It rained all day today, and we went to sodden Nuffield Place* for a jolly good look around his gaff.

It's been preserved as per 1937 and is well worth a visit. Apart from fathering popular motoring he could apparently smoke for England.

Pretty much every room and horizontal surface has some cigarette or pipe related item nearby, including the dinner table...

Apart from the smoking room, you could also besport yourself of an evening in the snooker room

.. or listen to the wind up Gramophone with a jug of Pimms.

Late in the day: Time to write a letter of complaint to The Times. (No, I don't know what was kept in the intriguing box..)

Hung over next day? Take the Wolseley in to Oxford for a G and T next to the Isis.

*Later it was still raining when we went to Greys Court. That was sodden shut.
Look, I'm an old man. I shouldn't be expected to put up with this.

Lovely pictures - thanks for posting.

I suspect the box would have a parchment scroll in it which confers the freedom. I saw very similar boxes at Hughenden (Disraeli's house) on a recent visit. Unfortunately I didn't take a shot of them .

Presumably the guy behind Nuffield farm tractors as well?
It's the image that's important, not the tools used to make it.

Interesting story behind the pictures. Would like to see the old Wolseley car. I see at the bottom of the spedo a clock. All mod cons!

Nice set Pete, you've caught the atmosphere very nicely.
We visited there a little while back it was pretty much crammed with visitors on that particular day.
Thoroughly interesting place though and very much understated which I guess was the measure of the man given he and his family were worth a mint.

                  Just like his cars, really.

An interesting set of a place I'd like to visit if I'm ever over that way.

A nice set but I do like that last one of the car interior.

Many thanks.. I was rather constricted with that picture. The passenger window was open only about 50mm
