    First of all some pictures of Steller's Jay so that you can see the markings etc

    Derek, the correct spelling is Steller's Jay. The nuthatch is a White-breasted Nuthatch. There's a mis identification but I'll wait and see if anyone else spots it as a challenge.
    It's the image that's important, not the tools used to make it.

        Superb shots of some great N.American birds.

        As to the mis identification, the Mountain Chickadee doesn't look quite right to me. It doesn't have a black bib and the underparts a very buff. However I can't figure out what other New Mexico bird it could be so I may be wrong.

          Peter - you are correct the Chickadee is incorrectly described it is a Red-Breasted Nuthatch and the Junco is a Dark-eyed Junco.

          Apologies for the incorrect names and thanks to David M for letting me know where I had erred.

            I think some North American birds were named by someone partially colour blind. Red-breasted Nuthatches have buffy orange breasts. Purple Finches are really raspberry red and Purple Martins are bluish black.
            It's the image that's important, not the tools used to make it.
