  • A Happy Collie

Coming back off Hengistbury Head this morning we were greeted by this lovely Collie.

I was pleased with this shot as it bounded up towards us with it tongue hanging out in doggy grin

Shot using the 75-300mk2 on the EM-5 (I've edited my original posting in which I said it was the EM-1, forgetting that the EM-1 is in Portugal )

      Cracking shot. 200mm @f6.3 1/1600s ISO 400mm - Tack sharp.

In good light, I'm very happy with my 75-300mm Mk2, but I've got no shots like this yet!

I'm sure the owner would love a copy of this! Superb character!

Thanks both, it is an excellent lens in good light and capable of delivering great detail.

We got out early to make the best of the weather, there are a succession of really severe, short storms coming through at the moment, then blue sky again, typical coastal weather

            Great shot Brian,

I have the Pany 100-300mm and have been tempted but as yet cannot justify switching to the Oly - not a lens I use a lot.

The Em1 certainly delivers though and that combination suits you well (take it you used AFC rather than tracking)?

              Thanks Brian & Ian.

              Ian, re:

nope, SAF is my preferred setting and in this case it was using the EM-5 (sorry, I've just spotted my mistake - I'd forgotten the EM-1 is away in Portugal, I'll edit the original to make it clear) - I am a dim beggar

I thought you may like to see this one, which was with the EM-1 with 75-300mk2 (we get lots of friendly dogs on the Head)

You should take give your email address and offer these for sale to the owners. Pocket money prices maybe, but it seems s shame not to let them have such cracking shots of their pets!

                David.

                  Re: A Happy Collie

Thanks David, I've done a few paid "Pet shoots" but this type of shot is just for my pleasure as we wander about.

If the owner stops for a chat I usually give them my card and offer them a print but its surprising how few seem interested (everyone has a mobile phone camera these days I suppose )

Love them Brian both great images, and as you can probably tell from my signature I'm a sucker for dog pics.
                    Regards Paul.
One day I hope to be the person my dogs think I am.

                        Re: A Happy Collie

Thanks for your positive comments everyone, I've just printed both of these up as 40cmx30cm prints on one of my top quality lustre papers - they look stunning.

Could be destined for a competition or two and maybe a small corner in our September exhibition as a teaser to get some more Pet Portrait commissions

The collie is a great shot but the westie is superb Brian. The eyes are as sharp as you could get, fantastic shot. Both are full of life.
