  • C-5050, Retro 2005, Memories USA

The Olympus C-5050 (circa 2002) is a 5 megapixel P&S with an astonishing F1.8 aspherical lens, a precursor to the XZ-2.
At the time it was the digital component of a 3 camera kit I took to the US for a wedding shoot. (The others were Nikons, an F4s and an F90x)

Well, it wasn't all work, my client hosts took me out on their boat, which they call a Party Barge.
We remain in touch with Pamela and Joe who also entertained Sandra in 2006 and we have been good friends ever since.
This morning I had an email from Pamela expressing sorrow at having to sell their beloved boat as they have reached an age where they can no longer manage it.

So this is a small tribute to those happy hours spent plying the Rock River, Illinois in the spirit of Tom Sawyer & Huckleberry Finn!
Thanks Pamela & Joe for these wonderful memories.

Astonishingly good images Mark, shows how much relies on the quality of the photographer and not the latest gear

Well as much as I'd like to think so Brian, we must give credit to the excellence of the C-5050, a camera ahead of its time.

        Hi Mark,
This bought back memories of when I purchased my dear little C-760 and I remember how thrilled I was with it! It is sitting in the cupboard alone and forlorn as I play with my bigger beasties.
This looks so idyllic and how sad that the barge has to go.
But wonderful that the photos stay with us (if we don't delete them) and we can revisit happy times.

Thanks Lyn, and I belatedly point out that any political messages portrayed in this post are definitely not those of this poster.
