  • Socialist Worker Meets Oakley Shades

Sometimes street photography just flows, you get "in the zone" and become less inhibited as a string of opportunities present themselves. Other times the opportunities, or at least your ability to spot them (more important your ability to anticipate them) seem to dry up and you never really get in the swing.

I had one of the less successful days in Colchester yesterday, which wasn't really surprising as I was in the company of my wife and daughter, plus a friend and her daughter who are staying with us over Easter. That's also the reason why I haven't been on the forum so much during the last few days but back to the point, a shopping trip with four ladies is never going to make photography a priority. However, I was glad that I took my camera, even though I only got a couple of shots with which I am reasonably pleased.

I could have done better with each; the first had sloppy framing and is quite a substantial crop of about 7.5mp and in the second I almost cropped a foot off the subject, but they'll do.

You are getting really good at street photography John.
    Regards Paul.
One day I hope to be the person my dogs think I am.

I didn't quite know what to make of these, John ... both carry quite powerful messages. Very good street photography, regardless of being dragged along on the ladies shopping trip!

Nice couple of shots John, both tell their own story.

Glad you are enjoying the street work - it can deliver some good subject matter.

Thanks Mark, I find that the prospect of a little street photography makes a shopping trip more bearable!

I hear you John - I'm the same. If I don't have a camera with me then I don't enjoy going anywhere ... sometimes I think I am a camera.

Hi Ian, good point about pictures telling their own story; this is something that I'm trying to work on as I gain street experience as it adds value to a composition and explains the reason for taking it.

                  Second shot for me John.
It's the image that's important, not the tools used to make it.

Like them both, John, but B/w so suits the second.
The picture tells the story, great when you have a bad memory.DW.

My nerve often doesn't hold! Often it all depends upon how you feel on the day.

Yeah - I guess but I was really making the point that even using that I felt self-conscious

...sometimes I wish I was a pretty young woman instead of a mid-fifties bald grumpy old git - I'm sure shooting candids would be so much easier
