  • BIFs and BIFs

Slowly re-bonding with the 75-300 II. I was getting too many soft shots with it, the recent electronic first curtain update seems to have given this lens new life on my camera.

    Some recent BIFs.

If it's possible can someone enable the new Flickr embed feature on this forum, each image is a live portal to the extended exif info, you can even 'like' them through it.

Pair of Gadwall -- this is almost a 1:1 crop.

    Oystercatcher.

    Another shot of the Gadwalls

It took too many shots to get Sand Martins in focus.

This one taken a couple weeks ago during the Saharan smog.

And finally my first (almost) in focus swallow.

I forgot to post this. A bevy of swans. Other collective nouns for swans are -- herd (apparently), and lamentation. More swan BIFs on the way.

Nice shots Pete. I especially like the Canada Geese against the smoky coloured background and the oilseed rape (?) in the last one. I think the collective noun for all my failed BIF shots is 'a lamentation'.

You're definitely doing much better than I am. Nice shots.

Looks like the bonding process is going well Pete, they all look pretty sharp and well detailed and I'm impressed with the "Martin"? shots. Were you using SAF for these or CAF?

All SAF + MF. For the sand martins the MF was no use . I should have tried CAF for the martins but with hindsight i reckon the technique i got going was getting better and better as i was reluctant to use the burst rates. I went back to try for the martins since then and got a couple of good ones i'm working through now.

One of those swans. There are several hundred, well at least a couple hundred, here on the Idle Valley Nature Reserve.

And a different individual flying away. This isn't technically perfect but i quite like the shape.

OMG Pete ... breathtaking BIF against some sensational backdrops. Thread #9 is just something else.

Good shots No. 9 is the only Swan shot opening for me but it is a cracker.

                            Thanks for looking in gents.

I've only recently 'discovered' the 9 box focus area, makes a big difference in open spaces. All single shot (no burst rate), but i need to find out how to shoot with the burst rates when anti shock (0 sec) is on.

Here's a couple more from the same location and the same technique, Sand Martins, one of our top birds and sadly not as common as they used to be, and quite difficult to get sharp. All exif available on Flickr link in my sig.

Good stuff Pete, I don't think sequential shooting is possible with zero anti-shock enabled
