  • What's in the Bag?

That's what I was wondering when I noticed a strange bulge in a beach bag hanging under the rafters,
I reached up and carefully lifted it down. Curled up inside were two baby ringtailed possums.
I grabbed the XZ2 and snapped a few shots.

I rang Animal Rescue in case they were too young to survive on their own, then had them checked out at the local vet.
They leapt out of the bag and were declared fit and healthy. I released them amongst the trees in the park close by.

You need a "Cute Warning" for these shots Sandra

I love the whiskers on the first one and what an appealing little face

I imagine you peered into the bag with considerable trepidation Sandra but what a delightful surprise! Two very cute little creatures well captured.

Sorry - but I can't now read the word 'possum' without 'hearing' it spoken by Dame Edna . . .

One of my favourite little creatures Sandra. We have several resident ones in the yard including one in the bird box put up for the parrots.
I had one for ages as a pet when I was a child. That probably would be frowned upon now. It went on a binge one night and destroyed Mum's pot plants, so was returned to the wild.
The basket must have been a cosy home!

These little critters may have wanted to make this a permenant home. The Vet's assistant took them to be examined and freaked out when they jumped from the bag, all I could hear were screams and then laughter from the rest of the staff. She delivered them back to me in two seperate cages, saying they were fit and well but much too dangerous to be carried in the basket! They were not impressed being caged for the short journey back. I will contact you when I am closer to SA.
