  • an evening in Swindon

A few weeks ago I spent a few nights in Swindon...these are all in the more modern new town centre and probably doesn't do the town any justice...but I tried my best...it was dull and wet as you can see.

This series is a great snapshot of the place and gives a better impression of Swindon than I would have imagined.

I think you got some very imaginative shots out of some not very inspiring architecture. Well done.

It seems, to me to be a sacrilege to apply Brunel's name to concrete blocks.

      Regards.

she looked at me and said "It's official. I hate your camera. It's just so amazing and perfect I want one!"

At least he's remembered. I cannot forsee even a public convenience being named "The Perriment Centre."

I don't think Brunel would have worried....he is known for engineering excellence not aesthetics .....I can't bring to mind anything aesthetically pleasing about a Brunel design...the clifton suspension bridge is pretty good - but is that because its become iconic....much like the Tamar bridge. If Brunel had designed a camera it would have probably looked like a Zenit E rather than an OM.

You're right, Brian. So long as it didn't fall down, Brunel would have approved.

Very good observation and it makse for a nice series. It fits Swindon Tourist Organisation's proposed strapline "Swindon, it's not as bad as you think it is".

                      Re: an evening in Swindon

When I checked into the hotel I was asked if I was staying for business or pleasure...when I said it was for business the receptionist said....no one ever comes to Swindon for pleasure....what a shame, makes me feel sorry for the town.
I was then advised I had an upgrade to the top floor exec room with a floor to ceiling window view....of the railway!

Great set of shots Brian, number seven is like an optical illusion and looks curved

I recently stayed at the Jurys Inn in Glasgow. It overlooked Glasgow Central Station which was fantastic

They are a nice set Brian - I like No1 especially too.
My streetscapes never, ever look as I imagine they should after taking the shots, and I think you have done a really good job on a dull day with fairly stark architecture.
