  • Her Train of Thought

Janette and I caught Sunday's 7:30AM train to Melbourne's Moomba Festival.
It's a 3 hour trip so on the way we breakfasted on liberally buttered Easter Buns and a flask of hot coffee.
    1.
I paused for a shot of the engine before heading off to see the "Birdmen" attempt to fly on home grown wings on the Yarra - no pics, it was a FLOP!
    2.
After lunch we checked into the hotel before taking a stroll to Southbank before returning to take refuge from the stifling heat.
On any one day a million spectators visit Moomba each year, it's an exciting event and we enjoyed every minute.
    3.
After a delicious continental breakfast of bagels, cereal and a bowl of fresh fruits at the hotel we made our way to St Kilda Road
to watch the Parade at 11:00AM. The gathering crowd was entertained by various performers in period costumes ride ancient bicycles.
    4.
Janette is amazingly fit for an 82yr old and after a 2km walk from Flinders Street Station along St Kilda Road to the
Shrine of Remembrance, close to the starting point, we sat down on the grass in a shady spot and waited for the parade to begin.
    5.
Time passed quickly when suddenly a troupe of Sri Lankan dancers burst onto the scene and the parade had begun!
    6.

Girls are such delightfully incredible creatures aren't they Bill - but at our age we can only sit back and admire!

Thanks Tom, that was a nice way of putting it.

The weather looks greater than it was - 34'c is no fun to be out in for long.

If you don't believe me ask any member of the English Test Cricket Team. Thanks Conor.

More great memories from a very happy and colourful event. I agree that Janette is very fit - but so are those girls in the last shot!

We all love a parade Mark, and Melbourne, with its rich multicultural mix does it so well.
I am sure Janette enjoyed her outing. I love the little cloth on the train table for breakfast.
                You thought of everything!

A loverly set of pics of a memorable event and a great narrative to go with them, and Janet looks very loverly and sprightly for a 82 year old.
                  Regards Paul.
One day I hope to be the person my dogs think I am.

Thanks John, but I'm not sure that you should be viewing exotic marching girls - I would not wish to raise your ... ...blood pressure to dangerous levels, my son

Thanks Lyn. Yes, I thought of everything going down but after the parade I left my handy 2 cup thermos flask and an almost full packet of McVities biscuits in the gardens where we stopped for a cuppa. But worst of all on the train home I left Janette's bum bag (photo #1) in the luggage rack and it has not been handed in. She loved that bag, it suited her, and I can't get another like it.

Thank you Paul, and she really enjoyed Moomba so much. It was a joy to take her.

Thanks Chevvy - although I'm not so sure that I operate that XZ-2 so well ... the damned thing stopped shooting at the start of the parade and I missed a couple of spectacular floats while I rummaged for the XZ-1 that saved the day.
