  • Damage To Cambrian Railway N.Wales

Below are some pictures I took of the damage caused by the recent storms to the Cambrian Railway line which runs from Shrewsbury to Pwhelli. I was looking North from the railway station at Llanaber which lies between Barmouth and Tal-y-Bont. The railway line has been virtually destroyed for over a mile where it hugged the coast. Over the years huge boulders weighing several tons had been placed along the line to protect it from such damage. Many of these have been simply washed away by the force of the waves crashing over them. It was a very shocking sight.

Didn't know of this line before so just googled it. It looked to be a pretty good ride along the Welsh coast lets hope this damage doesn't take too long to repair.

It's likely to take months to repair and it's unlikely work will start while the weather is so unsettled.
It was a fantastic way of seeing the North Wales coast and also a main method of transport for people living along its route.

Quite shocking, the damage looks severe.

A great shame this damage has happened.

I had not given a thought to the damage this line would have suffered being so exposed. Having holidayed in the area many times we know it well. Look out for the railway clips in Duffy's "Rockferry". [ame="http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=6zQP6vgWiek"]Duffy-Rockferry[/ame]
