  • Nocturnal Photography

    Hi there everyone!

As a night worker at this time of year I see very little daylight, which means my outdoor photography is a little limited. I took this on a dawn walk with my dogs.

Thanks for looking, any comments welcomed.

    Cheers,

    Ralph.

    Re: Nocturnal Photography

I rather like this Ralph, the square crop works well too.

I think I'd like it even more without the black frame or with a different coloured frame as the black merges with the silhouette part of the image and is only visible at the top and on the LHS.

    Thanks for sharing.

      Re: Nocturnal Photography

      Hi there PeterBirder!

I chose the black frame because it blended in around the image - just a personal thing but when I tried other colours it didn't look right to me and it seemed to be lacking something without it. I've found a couple more images from the walk taken with my other camera - see what you think.

      Thanks for looking,

      Cheers,

      Ralph.

I particularly like the first image and the second is very well caught. Thanks for sharing.

For some reason the last photo was reduce in size to 119kB rather than 279kB and so has some jpeg artifacts in the sky. It should look like this:-

          Cheers for looking,

            Re: Nocturnal Photography

Excellent silhouette, Ralph, against the lovely blue of a dawn sky. I'd be inclined to crop a bit off the bottom. Agree with Peter about the frame.

Just scrolled down and saw your other two pictures, very nice indeed.

Thankyou for your comments John, Connor and Peter!

I'll have a try of posting the first one again without the frame and see what you think. I'll just have to dig it out....

                Cheers,

Here's the first one again, this time without the controversial border.

                    Re: Nocturnal Photography

Hi Ralph - I could get howled down here, but I am not a fan of frames. They may suit some subjects, but I find the borders very constraining.
With your shot the scene sings without the frame. A lovely image of windmill and sky.

Thanks Ralph, that looks perfect to me now.

I like your other shots as well but that first one stands out for me.

I have to admit I'm with Lyn regarding frames in web posts. I suspect it's to do with the fact that there are effectively all sorts of other frames in a web page. I think my brain (what's left of it) tends to see a framed image as a "picture of a picture" if that makes any sort of sense. Now prints on the wall are a totally different matter.

                      Regards.
