  • Fish 'n Chips at Lady Baron!

The hotel takes it name from the tiny village of Lady Baron at the Southern tip of Flinders Island.
A population of just a hundred or two, many of whom are fishermen who as you see are a laid back lot.

But their fresh fish and chips at $24 are to die for - it goes down pretty well with a glass or two of Victorian Bitter!

Now you just gotta watch this ad - it's the brew that makes us Aussies such good cricketers!

I love the way they've used a scallop shell for the tartare sauce. Looks very tasty but I suspect not much room for something sweet afterwards!

Thanks Amanda for reminding me how to spell tartare
And you're right, I had to knock back the sticky date pudding with pink brandy sauce, a meal in itself!

And just to tease the palate further, the fish is deep-fried in beer batter too, mate!

Hold the Tartare Sauce - Hate the stuff. But that Beer Batter looks the Real Deal.

Stephen - "Mushy Peas"! How could you!

VB is a fine beer - Not up there with West End or Coopers, but a fine beer.

to Cordon Bleu status then I will be happy to share my recipe ...

Sorry - not even close to our production. Broad Beans? Yuk.

Now of that I am sure, but no need to apologise.

And I bet you do your laundry by hand also, boiling the copper, putting your sheets through the mangle, Ricketts Blue in the rinsing water to make them look white ... yeah, they were the good old days weren't they. Welcome to the new Millennium, Lyn!

Ah, fish and chips! Those look almost as good as the ones we get in England.

With a diet like that it's no wonder that you Aussies are giving our cricketers a battering in the Ashes and putting us back in our plaice. We're staring to flounder and it looks like we've had our chips for this series but hopefully we can net a few more runs as our batsmen are dab hands and never give up tope. But if we do lose, next year we will be angling for revenge!
