  • A view across the Mersey

    Hi there Everyone!

Here's a photo I took looking across the River Mersey to Liverpool to test out my new tripod - a 20 second exposure in typically windy conditions. I quite like it. Thanks for looking, any comments welcome.

    Cheers,

    Ralph.

    I like it.
The horizon needs straightened though. Good timing shot at blue hour.

Re: A view across the Mersey

        Hi there Alf!

Unfortunately if I straighten the horizon all the buildings lean over! It's caused by the fact that I'm looking down river rather than straight across - its the same but in reverse if I go to the landing stage in Birkenhead as then I'm looking up river! I could really do with getting somewhere in between but that is the ferry terminal for Belfast and you need a ticket to get on it I think (unless you know someone who works there perhaps).

Thanks for the recommendation for the tripod though - it really works well in quite a high cross wind (you can see that the clouds were moving quite quickly across the sky!)

        Cheers,

        Ralph.

Ralph, aside from a missing crescent moon, I can't fault it!

          Very nice indeed.

Works for me, Ralph, a nice shot. A good tripod makes a lot of difference.

If you did want to straighten, use Perspective control, that way you can keep your uprights straight

              Hi there Everyone!

In deference to Alf's suggestion and using the approach suggested by imageryone, here's my attempt with the horizon straightened.

              Thanks for looking,

              Cheers,

                I think thats better Ralph

I am glad you like the tripod what did you get?

I have just bought another Slik pro 500 DX as the sea was killing my Giotto and the Slik was easy to maintain for beach use.

                  Hi there Alf!

I got the Slik 400DX that you suggested from my parents as a birthday present - I'd got it in my Amazon wish list after your suggestion and it's a great tripod - very much more stable than my old one and not really that heavy (but I haven't tried carrying it far yet!)

I'm still not sure about the version with the level horizon (it may well be because I know it shouldn't be as I'm very familiar now with the view) - I think next time the weather is right I'll try down at the Birkenhead landing stage so I'll be more or less opposite the Liver building and see if it looks better from there.

                  Cheers,

                  Ralph.

Lovely shot Ralph. The little bit of P.S. did a great job.

Slik tripods are great for the money and the Pro models are sturdy it should last you a long time.

I think you should also get in around the docks in Liverpool etc on a still afternoon/evening at the moment it should be good.
