  • Pastures new!

Time for a change! We love the canal in the vicinity of our home but decided today to follow its flow to the south east and took a train just a few stations down the track to Kings Langley. We headed for the Grand Union Canal towpath and continued our journey along the path towards my home town of Watford.

We had been promised a fine day but although we had, maybe, a half hour of part sun, the weather soon deteriorated to the not unusual gloom until again, at the end of the day, we enjoyed about half an hour's late afternoon sun.

Soon after joining the towpath, we needed to walk under the M25 - this is a very busy road and is sometimes referred to as the London Orbital motorway. It is a 117mile (188 km) motorway that almost encircles Greater London. We live some ten minutes from one access point and our son and his family live just two minutes from another in Kent. The journey between us should take one hour door to door but has been known to take three!

This first pic is looking back to the M25 viaduct at Kings Langley at the beginning of our walk -

    1.

We walked to the outskirts of Watford and this bridge carries a road to The Grove, a five star hotel set in 300 acres, with an 18 hole golf course. The House itself was once the home of the Earls of Clarendon. With more time before dusk, we might well have walked to a good vantage point to take a shot of the house - something for another day!

    2.

As I have said, on the way back the weather perked up and the late rays gave us some lovely colours along the banks. This pic shows two forms of wind power utilisation. In a minor way on board the narrowboat and, above the tree line, you can just about see a wind turbine which is clearly visible as you drive around the M25 -

    3.

All taken with the OM-D E-M1, the first two taken with the 12-40mm lens and the third with the 75-300mm.

    Regards.

Lovely shots as usual. I keep meaning to find a parking place near t'cut to take Dibnah out. I know Kings Langley as it's near where I bought my car, so it's less than 20 minutes drive away.

No3 is my favourite but in No1 I'm surprised at how graceful the M25 looks!

Ann1e I love your canal shots they always make me wonder what the history of the area is. That bridge in no2 is very unusual for a canal. The mixture of M25 and canal in no1 is great, reminds me of a trip we made a few years ago when we travelled under spaghetti junction on the canal, a very unusual experience.

Rather see that view of the M25 than being on it, Annie
Once again you have succeeded in showing the contrast between high speed and slow speed living
The picture tells the story, great when you have a bad memory.DW.

Many thanks all for looking in and commenting.

I, too, was surprised by the almost graceful span of the viaduct from the canal, as we normally see it from the road which is a less attractive scene.

We have taken one or two (or more) weekend breaks with friends on various canals, and also on the Cam and the Broads and it is a wonderful way to view the diverse landscape we have. I particularly enjoyed being in the Halifax area, as this was such a contrast to our canal scenery locally. Our trip on the Cam was memorable for the wrong reason - we moored for the night in the centre of Cambridge but woke the next morning to an irate householder into whose garden bank we had 'crashed', having been untied during the night - students will be students, I suppose!

                Regards,
