with thanks to Olympus, MarkT and all those who put in the work to deliver Damian (http://www.damianmcgillicuddy.com) and his skills both as a photographer and instructor to those lucky enough to attend sessions at the Icetank last week.
whilst this one has obvious flaws (now that I have been shown what to look for) it also has a cameo of the great man (bigdog) so I'll show it here

the workshop was primarily to show how to set up a lighting arrangement using speedlights (FL50s in this case) although by the time I got to shoot the poor guy holding up the key light on a stand/boom was getting tired so it's not followed the head (it was a very interactive workshop!) so the facial lighting above isn't right, amongst other things.
it should be more like this

first is with the 45mm and the second the 75mm
Olympus UK seem to be the only people putting on these small, intimate, events and I would highly recommend watching out for any up and coming ones - Ian posts an early warning in the events forum so getting in shouldn't be an issue if you are early. last week every workshop ended up closed off as full though!
You can never be absolutely sure who's driving these initiatives, but in this case whoever it is deserves credit - combined with social media communications even such small events can have a large impact nowadays. on the credit front you get the impression of a huge team effort - fantastic all round.
so that's a big thanks to all involved from me
