Adelaide, South Australia - North Terrace Buildings

Continuing our stroll around the CBD of Adelaide, we leave Elder Park and the Band Rotunda. A lovely area well utilised for concerts, festivals and just having a picnic on a balmy Adelaide summer evening (something Melbournians can only dream about with their foul weather!)



North Terrace is a beautiful boulevard running parallel with Rundle Mall, just a stone's throw away. It houses the Museum, Art Gallery and University buildings.
This is Bonython Hall where concerts take place and the Uni students have their degree ceremonies.
Most shots are taken from the front of the building, but with the trees being deciduous at the moment, I decided to take a side view. The fact there was a workman's truck parked right out the front had little to do with my decision!



This is the Mortlock Wing of the State Library. It has a glorious interior and popular for cocktail parties. Surrounded by books, polished wood shelves and candlelight, a great evening out. Not a stuffy library at all.



Moving along we reach the SA Conservatorium of Music. I love this little building. Wonderful for String Quartet concerts with a lovely intimate feeling.



And finally the South Australia War Memorial.



Books have been written on the buildings along this boulevard and I have only touched on a few.

Well, well, well ... another nice stroll around town.

Elder Park does look like a great place for a picnic on a balmy summer's evening although certainly not without any shade beneath the melanomic sun of an Adelaide day.

Now you have the drop on me here, Lyn. I do not recall ever having seen this view of the tradesman's entrance to Bonython Hall.

Aside from its internal functions the external ledge of the Mortlock Wing appears to be a popular roost for learned pigeons ... one can only imagine what the inside of the tower must look like.

The Conservatorium of Music indeed is a fine building - I wonder if Redgum ever gave concerts there?

That said, I have enjoyed the stroll which I repeat brings back a flood of poignant memories - a very nice post I have to admit.

Funny you should mention the Victoria weather, Lyn - we only had two wet days during our four weeks in Australia (and we were over in July, so were not expecting it to be great!) and on one of those days we had a spectacular storm at St Kilda on the Mornington Peninsula. I guess it should have been a good photo opportunity but we were more concerned with dashing down the length of a pier for cover!

Well, I might be a little late arriving but I, too, enjoyed the stroll. It seems that Adelaide has many fine buildings and much culture to explore.

Hi Annie - Your mention of Mornington Pier catches my attention as Mornington is where Sandra and most of her family have lived since migrating to Oz. I'm wondering if it was Mornington Pier you were on or perhaps it was the Sorrento Pier?

Hi Ann1e, when one is in Melbourne one spends most of one's time dashing to cover to escape the showers!
Adelaide enjoys a true Mediterranean Climate.

There is always a "straggler" in a group taking a stroll John, but I am glad you caught up and enjoyed a few glimpses of "one of the top 10 best cities in the world to visit". and yes, I am going to milk this recent accolade for all it is worth for some time yet!
