We had just three full days in North Wales and the forecast for the first two was not good with low cloud cover. The third day looked as if it may be more promising so we decided to try our luck getting the mountain railway to the summit of Snowdon. Only problem, there had been no train service for a week because of the weather, so the service was likely to be oversubscribed! We arrived in Llanberis early and found that, indeed, the three morning trains were full but an extra train was scheduled for 1.30 pm and we were able to book for this one.
We now had a morning free in the locality and we first spent some time at the ruined Dolbadarn Castle, which was a short walk through woods skirting the car park -
1.

Just outside Llanberis, from where we took the train is a lake - Llyn Padarn - and this second pic shows a mine on the far side of the lake. The sun just about managed to put in a fleeting appearance! -
2.

We duly took our place on the train and towards the summit found ourselves in the clouds and this is how it was for about ten minutes. We had to catch the same train back as it was the last of the day so we had just 30 minutes on the mountain. Our first view on leaving the train -
3.

We hurried to the summit and as I stood there (with a good few other souls), Barrie took a pic of me taking a pic of him -
4.

Then the cloud/mist began to clear somewhat and it was possible to capture something of the beauty of the scene -
5.

6.

We returned to base and had been told of a road to take on the way back from Llanberis which would put us at the head of Llyn Padarn and would give us a long view of Snowdon (and also of Dolbadarn Castle but this is very small dot in the distance to the left of the image!) -
7.

We had a great day and on talking to some of our friends on our return we have found that a few have walked the mountain on several occasions but never got a 'view', so we were very lucky.
All taken with the OM-D E-M1, 12-50mm lens.
