I have had a go at HDRing a photo with people in it, to be sure that I didnt get any big movement i.e hair hands etc I used one RAW image, coppied it and ajusted the Exposure (+/- 2ev) before tone mapping etc, but Im not sure about it

It has worked. All too often we look at things the way we expect them to look and when presented differently, we attribute negative comments to them.

This is predudice in the same way as any other constraint on diversity.

I'd liken this to an HD watercolour or a Semi Hi-Key HDR. Maybe it's "Muted HDR" or even a new style yet to be "labled"

You just may have created a whole new style.

The river scene looks a little flat and lacking in contrast. Maybe the HDR effect you tried for was a little too subtle.

The technique really has worked on the people shot, however, producing what I consider to be a great result. The HDR effect has made this image slightly surreal and mysterious without going over the top. If that's a band, I think this shot would make an excellent promotional poster or CD cover.

I agree with John completely . I think the group shot has a really interesting quality.

I am trying to get into HDR myself (having bought a discounted copy of Photomatix thanks to a tip on this very forum!). Would you be prepared to share your settings at all Dave?

Hi Voksie, i was wondering how people would come out given the hdr treatment, now i know. It looks like a very detailed drawing, i think it works very well. Am i right in thinking you photograph bands, if so you could come up with some interesting shots in that style.

Hi Thanks for the comments I am waiting for feedback from the band,

here are some re-worked images of the above, with a bit more colour and changes in settings.

and here are some extra shots where I have applied the same technique

My technique is as follows:

each image is one photo either Jpeg/Raw I then make two copies of the photo and edit the Copies to +/- exposure

the photos are opened in Photomatix (i use photomatix pro 2)
I then used the following settings

Strength setting of between 90-100%
Colour Saturation to around 20 - 40%
Luminosity about 8 and smoothing high

Once the image is saved I then open in Paintshop pro, reduce noise if needed, then I palyaround with the Clarity and Shapness setting till i am happy.

Love the Red Arrows and the Airbus, they almost have a pastel sketch quality.
