  • Nicks Legs

Nick has been making Legs this week for his Camper ex Saab/Scania Lorry bunks !

the legs have hinges welded to the main strut

    he made these hinges

and then welded them on to the leg

Not bad welding for a 70 yr old

Here is a "foot" he welded on

    and the whole leg

He is taking 4 of these short legs for the lower bunks and four of the long legs for the top bunks, up to Alton to the chromers. Who are always blown away by the quality of his metal work !

In Scania lorries they have a "net" and essentially "seat Belts" to hang the bunk when down and slept in ok for lorries, but Nick wants it all smarter in his camper

I am glad he has got back into his Camper re build ! and also, I am very proud of his work in it

    Re: Nicks Legs

    Hi there Chevvy!

A fine set of legs - very impressive welding by Nick. I have to admit that my welder has not seen any action since making my wife a bespoke TV stand for the bedroom earlier in the year - lots of good intentions of making the fence panels for the front garden, but time has been against me! I don't generally have my stuff chromed, I never quite manage to get the finish fine enough so generally spray mine with car type paints, but If the fence panels ever do get made they will go to be galvanised before being painted.

    Cheers,

    Ralph.

You're right to be proud, Chevvy, that looks a fine piece of work. It almost makes up for the disappointment of not seeing Nick's actual legs. When I read the thread title I thought, "I must see what Chevvy is up to now!"

Thank You Jim. Nick has had a lot of experience ...

In a past life, Nick earned a fortune on the North Sea Gas pipes ... he had a team of six "passing him flux?" as they all sat in a tent on the beaches of England ... in ALL WEATHER ... he would weld massive pipes together - the weld would be tested/x rayed for 100% continuous seam no gaps/no joins. same density all around and, when passed dragged out to sea ... and the Team would get a bonus. Nick had a 9 out of 10 record most weeks but only because his Team worked so well.

BUT, even Nick was surprised he could still achieve a high level weld as this ! Maybe that he set up for welding in a Gazebo (Tent) and it bought the old skills back ...
