  • Californian Condors

Taken at the Navajo Bridge in AZ. The bridge spans the Colorado River about 11.5 miles south of the Glen Canyon Dam as the Condor flies. The road number is the 89A should you wish to do a Google maps search.

The condors have been re introduced into the area and they fly the length of the Grand Canyon and more.

This is the third time we have visited the bridge and seen several condors perching on the bridge but this is the first time we have seen them flying over.

Taken with an E5 and the 50- 200 lens and cropped to about a quarter to a third of the size.

No mobility scooters were used in the taking of the picture.

Lovely shots. They were extinct in the wild when they captured the last few and bred them with zoo specimens. I remember the hoo haa in my youth. Last i heard was there were now a couple hundred in the wild.

        Very envious indeed

Hopefully, the chick I saw will be doing flying displays in Bedfordshire in a couple of years.
The picture tells the story, great when you have a bad memory.DW.

A couple of years earlier I saw the Condors roosting on the bridge over the Colorado River.

Exceptional Derek. The E5 + 50-200 must be way faster than the E3 to focus.

Great to hear they have been reintroduced into the area and are doing well. Fantastic bird and well captured.

Remembering the Monty Python "Bruce" sketch, maybe the Aussie psyche finds it simpler to label everyone on this forum "Brian" on the basis that there are a few here already.....

"Is your name not Brian then?"

                  "No, it's Derek."

"That's going to cause a little confusion. Do you mind if we call you Brian just to keep it clear?"

                  Here's the original sketch..............

Profound apologies Derek, and thanks to John I stand corrected.

Gave me the opportunity to seek out a bit of classic 1970's comedy!

Not that we stereotyped people in those days, of course.
