      Yes, they had a couple of Broughs - a SS80 and a SS100.

I owned a 1937 SS80 sidecar outfit for a while, but was very unimpressed with it. I picked it up and drove it about 15 miles. I later stripped it down with the intention of restoring it.

I thought it was poorly made and a 'bitsa'. It had a sidevalve Matchless engine, Sturmey Archer gearbox and other manufacturers bits. The petrol tanks on Broughs is a shallow teardrop shape, and the deep drawn front section was 'paper thin' as a result. The overall finish of the machine was poor.

It had an interesting feature on the sidecar, which was of a 'Stieb' shape. The wrap-round main tube was used as a spare fuel tank. You unscrewed the mascot on the top loop and filled it with fuel. When you needed the fuel, you drained it off a tap on the bottom section.

      I sold it on.

      Jim

Thanks for showing that carb looks to be in a dangerous position.

British engineering ingenuity as it's very, very best. Nearest I got to anything like this was a 1947 1000cc square four Indian from the USA. How I wish I still had it.
The picture tells the story, great when you have a bad memory.DW.

            A nice three banger.
It's the image that's important, not the tools used to make it.
