  • Southern hawker dragonfly - exactly what it says on the tin

If you have got this far then I hope you are not unhappy.

This beauty was in my local wood - Salcey Forest http://maps.google.co.uk/maps?f=q&hl=en&geocode=&q=salcey+forest&sll=53.800 651,-4.064941&sspn=12.348397,33.903809&ie=UTF8&filter=0 &ll=52.148659,-0.833931&spn=0.012508,0.033109&t=h&z=16

This type is one of the hawkers that come and have a look at you. Fly at head height to about six feet away, maybe three or four times, decide you are OK and then go off to their favourite spot to perch.

I was lucky with the sun, the perch and got focus about right. I am sure someone will be annoyed by the angle and the stray grass but it was hard enough to get it to stay still for this. So I was pleased.

    best wishes

"If you cropped it off just a little"only joking

    So I was pleased.

So you should be.I my mind the main person to please is yourself. If others like it then its a bonus.

Me, I'm happy seeing it. Getting a picture is mind-blowing. Feedback like this may go to my head, but thank you.

WOW Peter, great capture - he liked posing for you eh! Very sharp and lots of detail - who cares about the grass when you get an image like this. Keep 'em coming I say.

Wow! Amazing shot. Especially of such an unhelpful subject. Excellent DoF really shows off the subject well.

              Fantastic capture. Well done!

I think "I wish I'd taken that!" sums it up nicely.

Blimey chaps, I will post more if you're not careful...

But John, Yorkie, Phil and Hugh thank you very much I will share one where the little b@@@@rd moved if I still have it. I have several of him and another mate but with the wind (I'm a martyr to it), and the tendency of these insects to shoot off at any sound or movement the rejects can be good....

What a truly fantastic shot. Great focus, great exposure, great DOF.

I'd love to take a shot half that good. Just amazing.

Super shooting, it's the detail in the wings that does it for me.
